The city owns and maintains more than 500 alleys in the city. They are in the midst of their annual alley grading program. Crews will be filling potholes and leveling stone alleys. They have been getting calls about when they will get to certain alleys, and they are asking residents to be patient as it takes time to get to all the alleys.

Deputy Public Works Director Warren Roach adds, “The rain slowed us down a little bit so we need people to be patient as we will get to you. There is a specific science to this we don’t want people’s backyards to flood. Some people request more stone, more stone, more dirt, more dirt. We can’t do that. There’s a specific way we have to grade the alleys.”

Roach says they are only doing stone alleys, no paved alleys. These are not vacated or private alleys as those are the responsibility of the property owner.
