LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima City Schools introduced new after-school programming for their students.
In partnership with Open Doors Academy in Cleveland, the district started an after-school program at Lima West Middle School in 2019 that has since extended.
They presented the program at the Allen County Family and Children First Council meeting earlier today. In partnership with Open Doors Academy in Cleveland, the district started an after-school program at Lima West Middle School in 2019 that has since extended to Heritage Elementary, The Liberty Arts Magnet, and now North Middle School. The hope is the program will give the students many different career and life skills, as well as some fun activities.
"It's a great after-school program that encompasses career-building, homework help, and there's some academic component to it. There's a lot of special interest-based activities that the kids are able to do too. It's helped with students' attendance, their grades, and we've seen disciplinary referrals go down. So we're excited to have it and very grateful as well," said Jill Ackerman, Superintendent of Lima City Schools.
