Lima Firefighters Give Back

The people sworn to serve and protect are giving back to the community.

The Lima Fire Firefighters Local #334, donating $1,000 to Crossroads Crisis Center from a recent fundraiser they held. Crossroads representatives say a donation like this, that has no required usage such as a federal grant, can be used for emergency purposes to help those trying to get away from a violent situation.

"We use them for emergency items that we may need which would be like a bus ticket to get a family out of the county or it may be someone needs some birth certificates, some help with a bill, or something like that just to get them more self-sufficient and be able to live violence free," explained Christel Keller, Crossroads Crisis Center Executive Director.

"Crossroads Crisis Center is fantastic, they do a wonderful job in our community. I wish they didn't exist, but obviously, there is a need for them. The Lima firefighters are using their money here in the community, almost 100% stays right here to help good non-profits," said Andy Heffner, Lima Fire Department Deputy Chief.

Heffner says they will continue to support the community as long as it's needed.
