LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Fourth graders across Lima City Schools got a taste of life on the farm.

Students visited Lima Senior High School’s ag building and farm for “Farm Day,” where they rotated through a series of interactive stations. Activities included composting demonstrations, soil testing, animal science and hydroponics.

They also got up close with farm animals — including “Sassy,” a Highland calf that has become a student favorite. Organizers said the event is designed for students who may not otherwise be exposed to agriculture.

“Our whole thing here is, one, we want to make it known that Lima Senior has an ag program, and we want kids at a young age to understand where their food comes from,” said Tim Garmon, ag instructor at Lima Senior.

Some of the produce grown on site is used by Lima Senior’s culinary program, and the ag program plans to sell some at local farmers markets this summer.
