A Lima man wrote about growing up on Euclid Avenue, and now his life story will be gripping readers nationwide. Keith Bicknell shares his personal family struggles under the name R.K. Rytaran in his newly released book titled "Euclid Avenue". The book starts out when Bicknell is only 4 years old and finds his brother dead. From there he details troubled years when his parents chose to abandon him and leave him with the neighbors for an opportunity to move for a job. By age 12 he's working full time and facing traumatic circumstances. The book follows Bicknell into adulthood where things don't get better after he finds himself in a downward emotional spiral with alcohol and drugs and eventually a unintended marriage. He find himself with nothing left but hope and prayers. Bicknell wanted an opportunity to tell his story in hopes of connecting with other youth who have also grew up with hardships and struggles. Â Â
Bicknell said, "This 18 year old young lady, she's sitting on the sofa, she's reading the book, she's about halfway through it and he asked her 'what do you think of this?' she looks up, she's got tears in her eyes and she said 'I thought I was only one' that just makes it all worth while."Â
But if you can't relate to his struggle, he says there is still a valuable lesson to be learned from his story.
Bicknell went on to say, "You just don't know or understand how much pain the person beside you in class, in school, at work, on the bus, sitting next to you in the pew at church, you really have no idea what they're going through, the depths of despair and pain that they may be in."
Euclid Avenue is the first in a series of three novels that take place in the Lima Area. He hopes the other two book hat complete his story will be published in the future. The book is available in print and e-book formats through Tate Publishing, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other retailers.Â
