Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith campaigned that she would be out in the community taking her administration to the people. She has made good on that with her weekly “Walking the Wards” initiative and the “Better Together” Community Meetings.
The public is invited to participate in both of those and many have come out to the meetings. Smith says they have heard concerns about needing more infrastructure like curbs and streetlights to programming for reducing recidivism and helping fathers.
Mayor Smith adds, ‘What that’s telling me is that all of those are important issues that the community is talking about, that the community is thinking about. And our plan needs to be able to have room for both those hard dollar capital infrastructure projects but also those heart projects that create those programs to help people.”
You can join the mayor and her administration for her third “Walking the Wards” on Thursday. They will be meeting at 11:30 am at Saint Marks United Methodist Church on North Metcalf Street. They will walk about a mile starting at noon and returning to the church.
