LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Students in the Children’s Developmental Center received needed items before the start of the school year, thanks to a long-standing community effort.

For more than 15 years, the Lima Memorial Auxiliary has organized a supply drive to collect items for the center, which is located inside Lima Memorial Health System. The program serves children with developmental concerns between 18 months old and kindergarten.

The annual drive allows Lima Memorial associates to support the center by donating snacks, school supplies and paper products.

“Because we are privately funded and rely on a lot of outside support to to exist. These kinds of donations really are extremely helpful and help us to get things started and keep our expenses down while we launch our new program year. We tend to have a lot of expenses getting things ready, new materials to start the year. So, this kind of donation helps lessen that burden a little bit for us," said Elisha Reineke, executive director of the Children’s Developmental Center.

The center has 22 students enrolled for the upcoming school year, which begins Sept. 3rd.

Those interested in helping the program can call 419-226-5046 or visit the center’s Facebook page.
