There are 150 miles of streets that the city public works department oversees in keeping clear of snow and ice. They have 8 seasoned drivers in plows and 8 trainees riding along. The city is divided into sections with main roads as a priority. These are the first to be to cleared to make sure emergency vehicles can get through.

Deputy Director of Public Works Warner Roach says, “Yeah, we have 5 sections, it’s A to E. Basically we have designated drivers to go in each section. So, we’ll continue through 24/7 throughout the day or night. Whatever it is until we get everything cleaned up.”

In an event of more than 4 inches of snow, the city will implement the “odd and even” days for parking in neighborhoods that have made plowing on side streets much more productive.
