Lima Refinery marks 125 years in operation

A Lima landmark celebrates 125 years. Sam Shriver reports on activities surrounding the anniversary of the Lima Refinery.

Lima Refinery maintenance director Doug Parish has worked at the facility for the past 36 years. He's seen good times.... and bad times when it appeared the refinery would close in the 90's. The Canadian company, Husky Energy now owns the refinery, taking over in 2007. President and C.E.O. Asim Ghosh says the Lima Refinery is a key part of their business.

Plant Manager Roy Warnock says the success of the Lima Refinery lies in its' skilled workforce. 125 years of memorabilia from the past was on display at the Allen County Museum as part of a one day only exhibit celebrating the Lima Refinery's history. Museum director Pat Smith says a permanent exhibit, a model of the Husky Refinery was dedicated Sunday and is now on display in the basement of the museum.

As part of the 125th anniversary of the Lima Refinery, people could also take shuttle buses from the Allen County Museum to the Husky Refinery for an hour long guided tour of the facility. Husky also presented a check for 30 thousand dollars to the Lima family YMCA for their mentoring program and another 30 thousand dollars was donated to Ohio Northern University.
