Lima Refinery to begin maintenance on September 3

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Cenovus Energy is preparing for some major work at the Lima refinery starting in early September.

The refinery will begin bringing down units on September 3rd to do needed maintenance. During what is known as a "shutdown" or "turnaround," work will be done to make repairs and improvements to the equipment. During that time, the general public may notice additional flaring, different noises, and odors, which are all part of the process.

"We're actually taking the units that process oil and make products, and we're using our procedures to shut those units down in a safe and orderly fashion. Once they're down, we open, clean them, and inspect them to do any needed repairs, make improvements, and then we start them back up. We will then have a multi-year run after that," explained Steve Schwartz, director of maintenance and construction.

Schwartz says they bring in more than a thousand additional workers to complete the process. During that time, residents will see additional traffic along with busy restaurants and booked hotels. They hope to be up and running in a couple of months.
