LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - The Lima Senior Choral Music Department continues a long tradition of singing sacred music for sacred spaces.
The choirs are happy that Lima churches open their doors to let them perform sacred music.
This year, the voices of the Spartan Singers, Spartanaires, and Masterworks choirs filled the space of St. Rose Catholic Church with works like Ave Maria and a spiritual from African American composer William Dawson, along with various other hymns and gospels. The choirs are happy that Lima churches open their doors to let them perform sacred music.
“So, Sacred Spaces is really a great opportunity for our students to learn music that is kind of outside the norm for them. Scared music is not something that a lot of them perform regularly, and they also get to sing the music where it was meant to be sung,” says Amy Phillips, Lima Senior Choir Director.
“I absolutely love this space; it is amazing, it’s beautiful, and performing here, rather than our high school, gives us an opportunity to branch out other than our own school, our own home. So, we get to hear different voices in a new setting, and it’s amazing,” says Davyon Williamson, senior at Lima Senior High School.
The choirs will start getting ready for their favorite “Holiday in Harmony in December.
“So, each year we choose a new church, and I always enjoy going out to different ones and getting our voice out in the community and showing them just how much our choir looks really good, and it’s always a good time with everybody,” says Sebastian Baughn, senior at Lima Senior High School.
The choirs will start getting ready for their favorite “Holiday in Harmony in December. This year the students will be performing holiday hits from Broadway, movies, and TV.
