Lima's four Catholic churches took time on Memorial Day to pay respects fallen soldiers, and also to loved ones that they have lost over the past year.

Flags were placed before the graves at Gethsemani Cemetery of those brave men and women who have served in the armed services at some point in their life. Plus an outdoor mass took place on the cemetery grounds, with a reading of the names of the loved ones that passed away over the last year. The annual mass is an opportunity for parishioners to come together while remembering those who have had an impact in their lives and in the community.

“It’s incumbent upon us to as their successors to remember the great things that they have done for us over the years,” says Father David Ross. “They have offered us a wonderful life in this community and we have a freedom in this nation that is unparalleled around the world, so it’s always important for us to keep that in mind.”

After the ceremony, they blessed the new gazebo which was recently built at Gethsemani Cemetery
