The Lima Fire Department continues their training, except this time, they invite two local departments to join in.
Just one week ago in downtown Lima, the Lima Fire Department began training in rope rigging and rescue scenarios at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center. The training is done to prepare them for situations where they would need to rescue the performers or maintenance workers that are rigged up to the rope systems. They're continuing this training today, only this time, they're joined by Shawnee Township and American Township Fire departments. Matt Parker, a fireman from the Lima department, stresses how important it is to be prepared for these situations in every way possible.
"Getting everybody on the same page and understanding how everybody's different equipment works and making sure everyone knows what's going on. That way we can work together on that. Just like fires, we all kind of go and take our own equipment for the most part, but we still want to know how everybody else's equipment works. That way, if we need to utilize it, we are able to do that as well," explained Matt Parker, Firefighter EMT, Lima Fire Department.
While this is a low frequency and high-risk scenario, Parker says the key to a successful rescue operation is communication.
