WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — Several local businesses and organizations are helping families beat the summer heat by sponsoring free admission to the splash pad at the Wapakoneta Family YMCA.
Non-members typically pay $3 for children and $5 for adults to use the splash pad. On select days throughout the summer, community sponsors are covering those admission costs, allowing families to visit for free.
This week, admission was free Monday through Wednesday thanks to the Wapakoneta Church of the Nazarene. According to YMCA staff, the initiative began with sponsored weekends and has expanded to sponsored weeks as more local organizations have joined the effort.
On select days throughout the summer, community sponsors are covering those admission costs, allowing families to visit for free.
"You know, times are tight right now for a lot of families, and we are just happy that we can provide an experience for families to be able to come and have a safe, great time and to be able to cool off in these hot summer days," said Liz Davis, director of member engagement for the Wapakoneta Family YMCA.
Organizations interested in sponsoring free splash pad admission can call the YMCA at (419) 739-9622. A schedule of upcoming free splash pad days is also available on the Wapakoneta Family YMCA's Facebook page.
