33-year-old Carl Mollett was found guilty of five counts of felonious assault with gun specifications and one count of having a weapon under disability by an Allen County jury in March.

In July 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals and the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force tried to arrest Mollett at his home on 4th Street on a warrant for gross sexual imposition out of Franklin County. When officers went to knock on the door, they were met by gunfire from inside the home. No officers were hit, and they didn't fire back. The Allen County SWAT Team was called in, and a standoff lasted a few hours until Mollett was arrested.

Mollett claims the charges from Franklin County were false.

"You don't avoid that by shooting at law enforcement trying to do their jobs, who have families to go home to," says Joe Everhart, Allen County Assistant Prosecutor. "That's not what you do; he put lives at risk unnecessarily, instead of just going out the door and handling it through the system of justice."

"This is just unacceptable in any kind of civilized world," says Judge Jeffrey Reed, Allen County Common Pleas. "I don't care if whatever they were going to arrest you on in Franklin County was bogus or what have you. That doesn't matter in a case like this, because they are doing their job, and you put all kinds of people at risk."

Mollett is expected to appeal his sentencing.
