NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) - New Knoxville hosted their annual Independence Day parade this morning, honoring America's 250th anniversary.

The parade kicked off at 11 a.m., with various local businesses, departments, and schools joining in on the fun. Officials say the parade and celebration help the community come together to celebrate the nation's historical birthday. The festivities returned last year after a brief hiatus, thanks to an effort from volunteers with the community park association.

"We've had the parade for 20 to 30 years. It did go away after the COVID-19 pandemic, and the community really wanted us to bring it back. So, we got some volunteers together. Last year was the first year back after, I think it was a seven-year hiatus, and we had a really good turnout," said Nick Wierwille, president of the New Knoxville Community Park Association (NKCPA).

The celebration continued with a festival at community park with food trucks, inflatable parks, live music, and many other events, with the funds going towards a new all-abilities playground for the community.

Officials said the celebration cultivates fellowship in the village and helps bring people together to celebrate our country.

"Every year we put on the 4th of July festival for everyone in the community to come and have a little fun, get together, and celebrate America. It just brings everyone together to celebrate living in America and how good we really have it," said Cody Vogel, a board member with the NKCPA.

The event wraps up with a firework display and a raffle drawing for various prizes.
