LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Dog owners have less than three weeks to purchase 2026 dog tags before prices increase across Ohio.
In Allen County, a one-year dog tag costs $22 if purchased on or before Jan. 31. After that date, the price doubles to $44. Prices vary by county, and dog owners can also choose three-year or permanent dog tag options.
Revenue from dog tags supports county dog warden offices and helps reunite lost dogs with their owners more quickly. Dog owners have several ways to purchase tags, including by mail, online, or in person.
“Make sure you get your dog license before January 31 if you're going to send them in by mail, make sure it's postmarked by then. We also have it online. So you can actually go to the Allen County, Ohio auditor website, and purchase them online as well. And there is an extra fee for the company that does send those out, so you got plenty of choices. Stop in our office at 1165 Seriff Road, and have a tag in your hand right then and there. If you come to our office, we do not take credit card, it needs to be check or cash,” says Julie Shellhammer, Allen County dog warden.
Those wishing to purchase a dog tag online before Ohio’s Jan. 31 deadline can visit https://www.doglicenses.us/OH/ to find their county’s licensing information.
