OHIO (WLIO) - Ohio is giving shoppers a longer tax break when families are thinking about back-to-school shopping.

The sales tax holiday will run from Tuesday, July 30th, to Thursday, August 8th. The sales tax holiday has been going on for years in the state, but last year the General Assembly extended it from three days to 10 days to help people keep a few dollars in their pockets. It includes purchases in person and online up to $500.

"It is not a sales tax holiday for a new car. It is for consumer goods and smaller things. But, it adds up, it puts a few more dollars back in people's pockets, particularly in a time they have been hit with inflation, and we know it is a hard time to make ends meet. Well, we are going to give them a little break so they can go out and buy the things they need the most," says Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, (R) Ohio.
