OHIO (WLIO) - The election of President Trump means Ohio again makes history. Ohio U.S. Senator J.D. Vance will take the oath of office as vice president on January 20, 2025.

J.D. Vance will be Ohio's first vice president in nearly 100 years.
Depending on which historian you want to believe, some say Vance will be Ohio's first-ever vice president. Others say there have been three. Charles Dawe was vice president under Calvin Coolidge, Charles Fairbanks under Theodore Roosevelt, and Thomas Hendricks under Grover Cleveland. All were born in Ohio but were politically successful and elected vice president while in Indiana and Illinois. No matter how you look at it, Vance will be Ohio's first vice president in nearly 100 years.

Ohio U.S. Senator J.D. Vance will take the oath of office as vice president on January 20, 2025.
Vance will have to vacate his senate seat. Governor DeWine will pick his replacement to serve until a special election in November of 2026; the winner of that will serve out Vance's term, which ends in 2028.
