LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Those of you who often run into trains on your commute to work or other locations might have to wait even longer.

The Ohio Supreme Court issued an opinion earlier this week finding that the state law that prohibits trains from blocking intersections for more than five minutes total is now invalid. The City of Lima has notified the police department as well as other officials about the change and have stated that they have connected with railroad workers about the issue of building up traffic at intersections.

"I've talked to a few railroad folks and they do hear from the public too so they do try to move things along quicker but you know if somebody's not there, you know, whether it be law enforcement or someone say let's get this open, we've got commerce, we've got people get to the hospital etc., you're going to have to make more time during your day to get around blocked crossings," stated Kirk Niemeyer, City of Lima public works director.

Niemeyer says that they are looking at technology to track how much time a train spends at a certain intersection.
