Ohio SPCA & Humane Society will have lower cat adoption fees for June

ELIDA, OH (WLIO) - June is National Adopt a Cat Month, so the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society will be lowering their adoption fees.

The shelter is currently at capacity, with over 200 cats, and they're unable to take in any more until some of their current residents are adopted. To help them find their forever homes, in June they'll lower the adoption fee for cats one year and older from $60 to $30, and for kittens, they'll lower the fee from $75 to $60. This is the time of year when unfixed feral, stray, and outdoor cats start having kittens, and the number of new animals is often too much for local shelters to support.

"Kitten season seems to hit us harder every single year. We have about 100 kittens, from four months to newborn, in that age range right now. The only way that we can decrease the population of cats coming in is to get them fixed. There are a lot of low-cost options around the area that we would be more than happy to provide information for," explained Rebekah Wolf, the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society's communications manager.

The shelter will be holding a yard sale on Saturday, June 1st, and Sunday, June 2nd, from 11 a.m. to 5 a.m., raising money to offset the costs of the lowered adoption fees.
