LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Ohio SPCA is asking the public for financial support to continue its work with the Allen County Humane Society.
The organization said tough economic conditions have contributed to a decline in grants and donations, prompting the Ohio SPCA to seek additional public support to continue providing services in Allen County.
The Ohio SPCA took over operating the Allen County shelter in 2015 after the facility faced an economic crisis and was turning away animals because it did not have enough money to care for them.
Since then, the Ohio SPCA has provided thousands of dollars to help keep the Allen County Humane Society operating. The organization also began accepting surrendered animals and investigating and prosecuting animal cruelty cases.
“It's been a one-way street for us. We have never taken any money from the shelter. The money flows this direction to the shelter. In fact, we also provided um the Humane Society with a professionally equipped transport van to rescue animals and also transport them to be spayed and neutered. We average 300 plus dogs and cats at any time. And so, you know, we're providing not only a service to those who for some reason cannot keep an animal. It's a place where people can surrender their animals if they have to,” says Teresa Landon, Ohio SPCA Board Member.
