COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — Fresh off the national championship celebration, Ohio Stadium is gearing up for a new sport with a unique event.
As part of the National Hockey League’s Stadium Series, the field of the Horseshoe will be transformed for a game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Detroit Red Wings on March 1st.

In its long history, there has never been an ice rink at the 50-yard line, and this is also the first outdoor contest in Blue Jackets history. The NHL began work this week to put the rink in for its 43rd outdoor game, a tradition that began more than 20 years ago.
Tickets are still available for the March 1st contest, which starts at 6 p.m. There are free pregame activities around Ohio Stadium beginning at noon.
