The increase in people on the roads could lead to potentially dangerous situations.

With the New Year's celebration comes more traffic on the roadways with people wanting to be with their families. The increase in people on the roads could lead to potentially dangerous situations. To ensure safety, the Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages people to wear their seat-belts and to have a plan when it comes to getting around this holiday.

"During the new year we want everyone to celebrate, go out, and have a good time. We just ask that if you are a designated driver, that you don't drink any alcohol or become impaired while you're being the designated driver. If you're going out and having a good time and drinking, we ask that you use that designated driver, call a taxi, or call an Uber," says Sgt. Chad Recker with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lima Post.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol also encourages people to call #677 or 911 if there is something they feel the need to report on the roadways.
