Ohio Women in Trades give young ladies a look into the construction trade

Lt. Governor Jon Husted made his way around MakerFest stopping at many of the booths and activities. At the "Ohio Women in Trades" display, he learned more about the organization and got to see many young ladies taking part in using a welder and metal saw. For many of the students, it was the first time using tools like this and others enjoy using the equipment.

"I thought it was really cool. My grandfather actually does some welding, but I’ve really actually seen him do it and to actually get some hands on experience is pretty cool," said Megan Recker, Ottawa Glandorf Senior.

"It’s just a really interesting experience. I like doing construction and stuff so it’s pretty fun for me. Like I was the first person that stepped up over there because I like doing stuff like this," said Aysha Bradley, senior at Lima Senior High School.

"It was really cool, like it's nothing like I’ve ever experienced. But I will definitely think about it," said Sydney Proinchok, Ottawa Glandorf Senior.

Pay as a journeyman in the trades can top out around $36.00 an hour.
