MORROW COUNTY, Ohio — A Morrow County sheriff’s deputy was killed in the line of duty on Memorial Day.
During the evening hours of Memorial Day, Deputy Sherrer arrived at a residence where an officer-involved shooting occurred.
According to a statement from Morrow County Sheriff John Hinton, Deputy Daniel Weston Sherrer, 31, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic situation in the village of Marengo. During the evening hours of Memorial Day, Deputy Sherrer arrived at a residence where an officer-involved shooting occurred. He was struck during the exchange and later transported to a hospital, where he died. The suspect was also shot and taken to the hospital in serious condition. The shooting is under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Sherrer had served with the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office since May 2021.
