Progress for new Juvenile Detention Center

The Allen County Commissioners may have found the location for what will be the new juvenile detention center.

Allen County Commissioners met with consultants on Thursday to determine location options for the new juvenile detention center. After careful consideration Allen County Commissioner, Cory Noonan says they were advised to consider the option of building the new juvenile detention center on North Cole Street next to the Sanitary Engineers Office. Noonan says the new construction will house both a treatment and detention component.

"Taking that information we made a motion for them to continue to look at the sanitary site, they're going to go out there and continue to ensure that it is the right place. Everything right now is moving  in that direction but then again there is a lot of work that needs to be done to ensure that location can hold the new facility," says Noonan.

Noonan says the next step is just waiting to hear back from the consultants to determine if the sanitary engineers office is the best location. He says they received money from the state to fund the project, but they don't have a price tag yet. He says they want to make sure the juvenile detention center will be around for 20, 30 and even 50 years.
