Project DAWN

Ohio Department of Health data indicates that Lima Allen County hospitals see an average of 14 overdoses a week and that number is probably way off depending on how the overdose is reported.

Reports to the Ohio Department of Health are based on key words found in a patients chart and are numbers reported by area hospitals. The department has provided funding to Ohio counties including Allen to be an official Project DAWN site. DAWN standing for "Deaths Avoided With Naloxone".

Individuals will soon be able to get the opioid overdose reversal drug from Allen County Public Health. This program includes education for those wanting the Naloxone kit. The 20 minute session will cover the signs and symptoms of an overdose, how to get medical help on its way, and the proper way to administer the drug. They will also get help regarding follow up treatment.

Naloxone kits will be available starting Wednesday, May 17th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at their offices located at 219 East Market Street.
