OTTAWA, OH (WLIO) - The Putnam County District Library celebrates a century of service to people in the county.
The District Library turned 100 on February 12th, and they have been holding fun activities all week to mark the occasion. Saturday at the Ottawa branch, they brought in an ice sculpture who recreated the 100th anniversary logo out of ice. The library also had crafts, cupcakes, hot chocolate, and a movie for people to enjoy. The library has eight locations throughout Putnam County, and they are always finding new ways to entertain and educate the people that live there.
“The mission of the library is to serve the people of Putnam County through their educational needs,” says Kelly Ward, Director of the Putnam Co. Library. “We offer a lot of things that people don’t realize. “For example, we loan out musical instruments. We loan out metal detectors, binoculars. We loan yard games. We have a whole bunch of things that people generally don’t think about when they think about the library. We are more than just books.”
The century celebration does not stop this week, Ward says the library is planning more activities for the 100th anniversary the second week of June when the weather is a little nicer to do stuff outside.
