COLUMBUS GROVE, Ohio (WLIO) - St. Patrick's Day is coming up, but on Saturday everyone was wearing red in Columbus Grove as they welcomed home their Lady Dawgs.

A victorious homecoming for Columbus Grove’s Lady Dawgs

With the community coming out to celebrate, you could tell just how proud they were of their girls.

After defeating Rootstown earlier Saturday, the girls became the first state title winners in Columbus Grove's basketball history. They were led into town by a fire engine from every village in Putnam County, then took everyone out of the rain and into the gym to continue the celebration. With the community coming out to celebrate, you could tell just how proud they were of their girls.

"We're definitely very proud of the girls. They put a lot of time into this season and a lot of time in the off season. A lot of them play AAU and just really spend a lot of time in the gym. So team chemistry is great. We spent a couple years not being able to get past regionals. So just really proud that they got to state this year and brought home a championship," said Danielle Auchmuty, senior Lauryn Auchmuty's mother.

Congratulations to the lady dawgs on a great season.
