Record number of Ohio CCW permits issued in 2016

Ohio set a new record of the number of concealed carry weapon permits issued in 2016.

The Buckeye State issued over 158,000 new CCW permits last year.  Allen County Sheriff Matt Treglia says that here in Allen County, the number of new permits increased from 500 to just over 900 from 2015 to 2016. In the first three months of 2017, the number of new permits is just over 140.  Sheriff Treglia says that the increase of new permits might be from changes made to the required learning process.

"I want to say that throughout Ohio, the reason that they're going up is because they took two hours off of the training course - now, it's an eight hour classroom and a two hour range session, where before it was 12 hours total, so that could be some of the reasons that the numbers are going up, and they've taken $14 off of the fee of the FBI background check," Sheriff Treglia said.

The number of new permits issued in Ohio last year was the highest since 2013.
