Senate to vote on Tax Reform Plan

The time to vote on the Senate tax reform plan is quickly approaching and the two sides of the Senate are finding it hard to agree on what exactly that plan will do.

The Republican plan would cut Americans' income tax rates and would also cut corporate taxes from a minimum rate of 35 percent to 20 percent.  The plan is also expected to help American corporations become more competitive globally, and Ohio Senator Rob Portman hopes that the plan can help out middle class families in Ohio as well.

"I think it’s important that we begin to bring jobs and investment back to Americans and to Ohio, and this is going to help in that regard," said Sen. Portman.  "I think it’s good with the middle-class squeeze going on, people's wages are flat, expenses are up, and with us losing jobs overseas, this tax code proposal could really help."

Senator Sherrod Brown is skeptical that any of the cuts being made will help middle class families in the end.

"If you want to cut taxes for the middle class, cut taxes for the middle class, not down to a bank shot where you say for the largest populations we're going to give them a tax cut, and then the money will trickle down and end up in the hands of the middle class - if you want to cut taxes for the middle class, cut taxes for the middle class," said Sen. Brown.

Senate is expected to vote on the tax reform plan after returning from their Thanksgiving break.
