LIMA, OH (WLIO) - There will be a lot of hammering going on in Allen County this weekend as stars from the History Channel's series "Forged in Fire" are in town.
The "Forged in Fire" cast is here for a "Grudge Match" to support the Warriors Way. It's a local non-profit that uses recreational therapy to help veterans and first responders who may be dealing with the effects of post-traumatic shock. The bladesmiths say the process of forging can be therapeutic as you manipulate the raw steel into a working blade.
"I like to compare it to a game of chess. Because you're always thinking ahead two or three moves. If you're not concentrating on the process you can mess up. You have to pretty much get everything out of your mind and just focus on the job at hand," explained David McConnell, Forged in Fire bladesmith.
You can see the smiths in action on Saturday (11/11/23) starting at 10 am and then on Sunday (11/12/23) there will be an auction of the blades made, starting at 5 p.m. Warriors Way is located on Dixie Highway just south of Breese Road by the car wash. The events are free to watch but donations are accepted to help fund the program.
