After several months of waiting St. Marys Fire Department has named their new Chief. Former Captain Doug Ayers is stepping into the role. Ayers served on St. Marys Township for five years before being hired by the city as a Firefighter paramedic in 1999. Five years ago he was tested and promoted to Captain and in now achieving his dream.
The position became available in March after the former Chief Joey Weaver took a permanent medical leave. His announcement also opened up the doors for a new Captain.
The two day testing process entailed a civil service exam and a panel interview. Ayers along with Kevin Heilers who was named Captain will begin their new positions on August fourth.
