LIMA, OH (WLIO) - With Independence Day just a week away, it's time to start thinking about the city of Lima's Star Spangled Spectacular event.

This will be the 30th year of the celebration that's being held in Faurot Park. It will kick off with the annual Freedom 5K Run Walk at 9 a.m. New this year will be a roundnet tournament at 11 a.m. The Veterans Appreciation Car Cruise-in will be from noon until 4 p.m., and the kids' fishing derby will be at 1 p.m. Evening activities include the Lima Area Concert Band performing from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. One of the region's largest fireworks displays will then begin at 10 p.m.

"It's nice to have something for our community. People don't have to drive to other towns to celebrate the 4th of July. We have a run in the morning. It's a great way to get the day started. Something going on all day," said Mike Carpenter, a committee member for the Star Spangled Spectacular.

There will be food trucks throughout the park all day, and shuttles from Mercy Health-St. Rita's will be running during the car show and throughout the evening for the concert and fireworks. You can find the complete schedule at lima4th.com.
