WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - The Summer Moon Festival kicked off in Wapakoneta, and that means residents enjoyed Wapakoneta by Moonlight Tuesday night!

Even though business may be heavy at times, we talked with two downtown Wapakoneta business owners about the overall importance and feeling of nostalgia the Summer Moon Festival has for them.
To kick off the 55th anniversary celebration of Neil Armstrong's Apollo 11 mission to the moon, Downtown Wapakoneta businesses, shops, and restaurants were open late Tuesday night for residents to enjoy. There were also plenty of musicians along Auglaize Street filling the air with some favorite tunes. First on the Moon organizes the Summer Moon Festival each year, and they say Wapakoneta by Moonlight gives people a chance to enjoy the city while celebrating Neil Armstrong.
"The overall benefit to the community is just getting people into Wapak and seeing what a lovely town it is, and really still celebrating Neil Armstrong and his landing on the first on the moon. I mean, what a better way to celebrate this anniversary than by coming to Downtown Wapak having a great time," says Liz Davis, Secretary, First on the Moon.

"We love all the new faces and all the people coming Downtown Wapakoneta. Downtown Wapakoneta has grown tremendously over the past few years, and we love seeing everybody come together because when you work together, you grow together," Annie Frost, owner of Frost Impressions, said.
"We opened last year on a first Friday in May, didn't really tell anybody, just kind of opened knowing that Wapak had good traffic. Moon Fest last year was incredible for us. I mean, the traffic that we saw, the people that came in that just found out about us from the event naturally. It was so much fun. Got to see a bunch of people from high school that I hadn't seen in years," says Zack Mikesell, owner of Polished Supply Co.
