LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Did you know that Ohio's weather forecasting groundhog has been making predictions since 1979?
Those are just some of the facts the Lima Rotary Club learned today about Marion resident, Buckeye Chuck. While Chuck may not have been making his spring prediction as long as his Pennsylvania counterpart Punxsutawney Phil, the Ohio legislature has made Buckeye Chuck the official groundhog for the state. On February 2nd, Ohioans will be making the trek to Marion to celebrate Groundhog Day and to hear if there will be six more weeks of winter or not.
"Buckeye Chuck is 75% accurate since his 43 predictions already," says Paul James, iHeart Media in Marion. "75%, that is pretty good. Last year, he failed miserably, God bless him. But, yea we had a pretty lousy February if you guys remember in 2022. So, Buckeye Chuck failed last year, but by golly, we got good hopes for him this year."
Buckeye Chuck will be making his 2023 prediction at the WMRN radio station in Marion, Ohio this Thursday at 7:40 a.m.
