People from all around the region flocked to downtown Wapakoneta for their annual Halloween Parade Thursday evening.
Spectators enjoyed getting candy and seeing all of the elaborate spooky decorations on the floats and even a school bus. Most of the participants in the parade were in costume, including the members of six local high school marching bands. The tradition, which dates back to 1919, is just one way the small town showcases its big personality.
"Everybody spends so much time on their floats and comes up with a new theme every year. We have everything from nonprofits to local businesses to the surrounding area that join us for this parade. We have over 100 floats this year, and we just love how many people come out for this parade. We have thousands of people that line the streets," said Lindsey Young, the executive director of the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce.
After the parade, awards were given to participants in categories like people's choice and best youth group.
