Hollywood's celebrities have had a habit of taking the low road when it comes to President Donald Trump but according to a local professor, dropping to the same level they criticize Trump for does not help their cause.
From A-List celebrities like Robert De Niro to comedians like Samantha Bee, Hollywood has been vocal about their dislike of the president. According to Dr. Jenny Walton, Associate Professor of Communications at Ohio Northern University, words matter and you can't out Trump, Trump. When celebrities voice their dislike of using the same name-calling tactics as Trump, it comes off as Hollywood ganging up against him and makes him come off as the champion of the little guy.
"When he's getting attacked, with all of these, you know, just name calling and a lot of tasteless remarks, it's galvanizing his base," says Walton. "They're just strengthening, and I really think that it's helping him way, way more than it's hurting him."
Walton says that Trump's opponents would be better served by focusing on substance instead of sensationalism and let Trump's words speak for themselves.
