United Association Local 776 opened their doors for some hands-on experiences as a glimpse into what they do. The union has provided highly skilled and trained plumbers, pipefitters, and service technicians to west central Ohio since 1937. The open house was highlighting National Apprenticeship Week, and the students were taking it all in.
The union offers a 5-year apprenticeship where you work during the day and take classes at night.
"I learned how to operate a crane and how to move it. And direct it with your hands and the operator. And how to set it down and unhook it and how to balance it out," said Caiden Mort, a Perry High School senior.
"We've been earning a bunch of new machines today. Piping and all that. That new TIG welding thing over there I thought was really interesting," commented Gave Lemaster, Ohio High Point junior.
