LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It was a bittersweet moment on Monday as Unity students said goodbye and good luck to their mentors from Lima Senior.
Ahead of their graduation, Lima Senior's DECA students put on their caps and gowns to walk through the halls of Unity Elementary one last time. The high school students spent the year visiting with their littles at Unity to provide help with classes, life advice, and emotional support. The annual tradition is the school's way of showing appreciation and support for their bigs as they move forward in life and showing littles what they are working towards too.
"It's such a beautiful day, coming to Unity and seeing some of the kids that we personally mentored through Big Brothers Big Sisters. Especially because a lot of the graduates you'll see today actually went to Unity, and I think it's so important to teach the youth that it's easy to get here and it's such an important day," stated Victoria Holbrook-Phillips, a senior and DECA student at Lima Senior High School.
"Being able to walk around and show them that not only are they making progress in school, but so are we, and really showing them what their future looks like, is really nice. All the kids kept wanting to get high fives, and that was really cute of them. That's their way of supporting, and it was really nice of them," commented Chase Hipsher, a senior and DECA student at Lima Senior High School.
Lima Senior High School will hold its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 25th, at 11:30 a.m.
