LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Unity was the word of the day at the Lima Kiwanis Club’s family meeting, a gathering of all the service leadership programs sponsored by the club.

Eleven groups were represented, each teaching youth of all ages the importance of service and leadership through unity. During the meeting, each group showcased their activities from the past year, including candy sales, hygiene drives, and helping feed people at Our Daily Bread.

Marcia Copeland Hudson, Ohio District Governor of Kiwanis, attended the event and praised the efforts of the local youth. “These children are truly our future, and they are important to us to teach them leadership and to teach them service for our community,” Hudson said.

Simaya Morgan, president of the Lima Senior Key Club, also spoke about the value of the programs. “I would encourage the kids to keep continuing Key Club and continue even through college. I feel like this is very good. It helps kids, you know, learn people skills and learn how to work with the community more, and learn how important it is really to give back,” Morgan said.

Members of the Kiwanis family remain active in numerous service projects throughout Lima and Allen County, making a difference one project at a time.
