WAPAKONETA, OHIO (WLIO) - A Lima man was killed Tuesday night in a crash on I-75 outside of Wapakoneta, which started as a possible road rage incident. 44-year-old David Shutt of Lima died at the scene of the crash on I-75 near the rest area between Wapakoneta and Cridersville.

Traffic was backed up on northbound I-75 for hours.
The Post reports the crash in the northbound lane happened just after 5 p.m. when 24-year-old Bailey Luckett of Lima stopped on the road in front of a semi-trailer, forcing it to stop. Luckett then got out of her car and confronted the driver. That's when Shutt's minivan struck the semi-trailer in the rear. Luckett fled the scene and was later stopped by a Lima Post trooper.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Traffic was backed up on northbound 75 for hours. It was reopened at 8:30 p.m. There were no other injuries. The investigation continues.
October 9, 2024, Press Release from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol: Duchouquet Township – The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred on October 8, 2024, at approximately 5:08 p.m. in Auglaize County, Ohio. The crash occurred on Interstate 75 northbound near Milepost 114.
Ms. Bailey M. Luckett, age 24, of Lima, Ohio was operating a 2019 Kia Soul. Mr. Jesus M. Perez, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania was operating a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia. Mr. David V. Shutt, age 44, of Lima, Ohio was operating a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. All three vehicles were traveling northbound on Interstate 75.
The preliminary investigation indicates Ms. Luckett stopped on the roadway in front of the Freightliner, forcing it to stop. Ms. Luckett then exited her vehicle and confronted Mr. Perez. The Chrysler then struck the Freightliner. After the Chrysler struck the Freightliner, the Kia fled the scene. The Kia was later located and stopped by a trooper from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lima Post.
Ms. Luckett and Mr. Perez were not injured. Mr. Shutt sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Mr. Perez was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. Mr. Shutt was not wearing a safety belt.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit, Wapakoneta Fire Department, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Auglaize County Prosecutor’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Auglaize County Coroner also responded to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash, which happened around 5:15 pm near the rest stop between Wapakoneta and Cridersville. The Wapakoneta Post says that the crash started as a road rage incident, eventually leading to a minivan running into the back of a semi trailer.
The post also confirmed that one person is dead and there were no other injuries.
