TOLEDO, Ohio (WLIO) — A Van Wert mail carrier has pleaded not guilty to a federal charge after allegedly burning mail he was supposed to deliver.

Kyle Carver is charged with one federal count of delay or destruction of mail.

In October, a Van Wert police officer was called to a home in the 900 block of George Street around 7:30 a.m. for an unattended fire in a backyard. The officer on scene discovered mail being burned.

Carver lived at the residence and was allegedly burning undelivered mail. The case was turned over to U.S. Postal Inspectors, who presented the evidence to a federal grand jury. Charges were filed against Carver earlier this month.

He was released on a $10,000 bond. A phone conference in the case has been scheduled for March.
