WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) -Â Kids at the Wapak YMCA learned about bicycle safety tips in a summer bicycle basics camp.
The four-day camp taught kids ages 3 to 7 the essentials on bike-riding, including balancing, using pedals, and staying safe while riding. Kids in the camp are encouraged to check their bicycle every time before they ride.
"It's very important to get kids not just up and active, but on a push bike. It's something you can use in your house, outside, in your basement, anywhere," said John Weaver, summer instructor.
"It really helps with their balance skills, especially for some kids at that age that are kind of struggling with balance. It gives them one less thing to think about with the pedaling. Once you get your balance down, pedaling almost comes second nature. It's something that is a little bit easier once you have your balance down."

The camp also works with kids' motor skills and balance, which is imperative for young children. This event was the first biking camp made for young kids for the YMCA. Officials hope to host more educational camps made for kids in the future.
