Wapakoneta Income Tax Increase

An income tax increase is in the works for one local city. Tonight, the Wapakoneta City Council met to discuss the need for a .5% increase in income tax. The original income tax of 1% would be raised to 1.5%, if passed.

According to Wapakoneta Mayor, Tom Stinebaugh, a .5% tax hike would add approximately $1.4 million to the city's treasury each year. Stinebaugh says that extra money would be used to improve streets and roadways, and he asks for additional guidance from the community in order to move forward.  Stinebaugh goes on to say, "We can get the water and sewer lines included in that or if they want us to do nothing but the street surfacing and curbs, we'll do that." He adds, "We're going to spend that money on what the people want us to spend it on."

Stinebaugh and the rest of the committee would like to stress how important feedback from the Wapakoneta community is.
