WAPAKONETA, Oh (WLIO) – The Wapakoneta Walmart is celebrating two decades of service, community engagement and local impact.
Associates, city officials and members of the public gathered to commemorate 20 years since the store first opened its doors in 2005. As one of the largest employers in Wapakoneta, Walmart has consistently found ways to give back to the community that supports the store.

Over the past 10 years, the store has donated a total of 663,000 pounds of worth of food, either through monetary or products donations, to the West Ohio Food Bank. Additionally, the Wapakoneta store has awarded approximately $175,000 in grants over the last 20 years.
During the celebration, Walmart presented the Wapakoneta Police Department with a $3,000 donation to support the department’s National Night Out event this coming August.
“We live in this community too, so we want to better and do everything we can to make this the best community that it can possibly be in any way that we can help, whether it's monetary donations or whether it's support for different things that we need to do. That's what we always want to try to do here in the town of Wapakoneta alone, it's just been a great town and a great fit for Walmart and for the for the store and for all the associates that we have in the building, and it's just been a great place to do business,” said Gerry Goulet, general manager of the Wapakoneta Walmart.
To honor the occasion, the store held a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by associates who have been with the location since its opening. Each of them received a gift in recognition of their two decades of service.
