It may be hard to believe but this arctic blast does have a silver lining.
This deep freeze is helping with the abundance of bugs we have seen in the past years. Naturalists at the Johnny Appleseed Park District say the sub-zero temperatures will slow down the reproduction of offspring of some insects.
"Perhaps some of those invasive species that we brought in like the Emerald Ash Borer, the Hemlock Woolly Adelgids, or even sometimes ticks can get slowed down a little bit by this freeze, some of the babies that are trying to survive or the eggs that are trying to survive all winter long won't make it," explained Dan Hodges, Naturalist at Johnny Appleseed Metro Parks.
Hodges says native plants, trees, and even the animals will do fine during the cold spell as they are adapted to Ohio weather.
