LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The West Ohio Food Bank is calling on the community to support senior citizens in need across West Central Ohio.

On Saturday, Aug. 2, the food bank will host a Personal Hygiene Item Drive to collect essential products that are not covered by many benefit programs, such as SNAP, which many seniors rely on.

The organization has hosted similar drives in the past, but this event is another effort to assist individuals 60 and older who are struggling to make ends meet.

“So, we're looking to get personal hygiene items such as shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, adult diapers, feminine hygiene products. And the reason why we do this is because those that are 60 or older, a lot of them that come to us have SNAP benefits, and you can't buy these personal hygiene items with those SNAP benefits, or you're on a restricted or low income, something like that. So, we do this every now and then. We collect these type of items, then get them out to our agencies pantries, so they can then distribute those to those in need,” says Jason Aldrich, Director of Communications for the West Ohio Food Bank.

Organizers emphasize that this is a collection event only, not a distribution. Donations can be dropped off this Saturday at the food bank.
