LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The West Street Bridge has reopened to traffic and pedestrians.

The work began in April to replace the bridge over the Ottawa River that was over 50 years old. The 1 and a half-million-dollar project reconstructed the bridge deck and also made stormwater improvements. The structure has new sidewalks with wheelchair ramps. The Rotary Riverwalk, which was closed during construction, has also reopened. A majority of the project was paid for by state and federal funds, with a 5% local match.

September 30, 2024, Press Release from the City of Lima: Replacement of the West Street Bridge over the Ottawa River is now complete. The work began in April 2024 to replace the bridge built in the 1970s, resulting in the closure of the area between North Shore Drive and South Shore Drive/West Eureka St., along with a portion of the Rotary Riverwalk. These areas are now accessible to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The project consisted of several improvements to the roadway, including the replacement of the bridge deck and beams, along with storm sewer improvements. The West Street Bridge also has new sidewalks, ADA ramps, curb lines, curb ramps, and newly resurfaced pavement.

The total cost of the project was approximately $1.5 million with the majority of funding coming from state and federal sources alongside a 5% local match
